EN - Born 1973 in Tokyo, drummer and composer Yutaka Uchida enrolled at Rikkyo University- where he encountered jazz, and particularly big band music- in 1992. His interest in composition led him to continue his studies at Berklee College of Music in the USA. He was awarded the first annual Louie Bellson Award (established by Avedis Zildjian Co.) there in 1999, in recognition of his outstanding performance as a drummer/composer. As a versatile and creative drummer, he has since performed with numerous artists from different genres at some of the most notable venues in New York such as: Jazz at Lincoln Center, Blue Note, Sweet Rhythm, Smalls, Joe’s Pub, 55 Bar etc. As an award-winning composer he released his first CD "Living Together" in October 2007.
